Severe Illusion - Armed Evolution
Gothtronic Review

The EP album contains 13 tracks and starts of with depressive lyrics, which are maintained troughout the album. “I wish I was dead” just like all tracks on the album has a similar set-up. Consisting of a simple but catchy melody filled in with distorted vocals. Almost every time there is a second line backing melody supporting and carrying the vocals to a higher level. The second track which is about getting stuck in your own habits and after a while realizing that this is not the way you want to live your life. Again the balance between the rhythm, vocals and melody is very good. The third track is more religious and tells you to trust in god. The recurring theme is clear at the 4 th track, again dead is the main subject in the title. “All my friends are dead”. After the fifth track, the sole one not conversing about death, several remixes of tracks one to three follow. The remix of pain machine leaves the original song completely changed, and no clear musical link can be observed. The remix by Mulphia and Caustic have made use of the backing melody to give the song their own identity. The last track again starts with some conservative religious statements, although undertoned with laughter. Several topics are “discussed” in this song. But the most impressive line of text is “You know in Calcutta , someone dies of starvation every 8 minutes. Eight minutes is a long time”. A strong conclusion in a strong, long though repetitive release from Severe Illusion.
